Zee Avi 352 If you haven't yet heard of Zee Avi, you soon will. The story behind her discovery and growing music success are what <a href="http://www.youtube.com/user/KokoKaina"target"-new"<b>YouTube dreams</b></a> are made of--her simple and grainy homemade videos, in which she sings and plays guitar, caught the attention of Raconteurs drummer, Patrick Keeler, then manager Ian Montone (owner of the Monotone Label) and now she is the newest, and first female, to join Jack Johnson's Brushfire Records. And due to internet fame and her Malaysian and multi-ethnic background (which she prides), Avi has virtually become an instant international star. Her self-titled debut album, which released this month in the US and Malaysia, also kicked off her first US tour. On May 22, 2009, Avi graced the stage of The Rickshaw Stop in San Francisco. The intimate, early evening performance for the crowd of die-hard admirers was laced with sultry smiles and witty side banter from the petite songstress. Her stage presence--a mix of sexy girl-next-door attitude and syrupy-sweet cuteness--along with her aptitude for playing stringed instruments (guitar, ukulele and banjo) and, of course, that nostalgia-inducing voice of hers made for a great showcase.
