The newly assembled act that makes up Here We Go Magic came together just over a year ago, fairly organically, according to Luke Temple. Early on, Temple—aka the creative mind behind much of this first album—admits he didn't really know what he was creating when writing the actual music for Here We Go Magic. So we guess it was magic. Yet when he came out of his solitary, song-writing coma (joined by one of his oldest colleagues Michael Bloch), he encountered the lovely beings found here in this video—musicians that all remain amazed at Temple's self-produced work, but even more so of the new sound they're currently creating with him. Voila... It's time for magic. After this tour, the band is set to record again in September, and we'll be bound for another trip by then. For now, the self-titled album offers a good trip of it's own—full of climbing high points, a few plateaus, and of course some abyss-seeking dives... but only to resurface again gradually. It's a softer take on the psychedelic rock genre, but one that sounds lovely on a hot Sunday afternoon.
The band recently opened at the Fillmore in San Francisco, for the closing show of the Grizzly Bear tour, and before sound check they talked to us about a few things—some intriguing songs, the new dynamic of playing live and the crowds reaction to their Fillmore show. It's a brief introduction, but what else do you need to know?
