It rained for 35 days straight here in São Paulo, Brazil. The rain finally stopped right on the day of the most expected metal show in 11 years, which made me wonder: "Is St. Peter (The "Rain Saint" here in Brazil) a Metal head"? The absence of the constant rain made the show even more exciting, not only for me but also for the 70.000 people who packed the Morumbi Stadium to see one of the world’s best rock bands perform the long-awaited show of the Magnetic Tour.

Before the show I attended the press conference to hear what they had to say. Here in Brazil, Metallica sold thousands of copies and increased their numbers from their last release. Their visit to Brazil definitely helped. Around 60.000 DVDs and 45.000 CD's flew out of the stores around their show time, assuring them a platinum award, which is a difficult thing to happen in the Internet era, specially in Brazil. At the press conference Lars commented that the first and the last memory that Metallica had of Brazil dated to 1993, when the band hang out together on the beach, a very good memory to have he said. James said that for them, the passion that Latin American fans have towards music as been very noticeable, “we can go from a deep feeling to an even deeper one in a fraction of a minute, what makes the show much more intense.”

The minute the got on stage that’s what they saw, a stadium’s bottom ring, top and floor completely packed of fans doing the symbol of Metal with their hands. They started with a song from the album Death Magnetic, "Creeping Death" followed by "For Whom the Bell Tolls" from the 1984 album. The audience went automatically crazy, singing deliriously. The stadium literally shook! For me, it was something kind of surreal, to see a band fill a place that huge is certainly a very strong and intense experience, it’s like when you find yourself looking amazed at the screen thinking that it can't be true. Another thing that really surprised me was to see how Trujillo plays the bass. Every time the camera gave a close up on him, we could see the strength and violence with which his fingers touched the strings. It was incredible!

Finally, I could witness James Hetfield’s astonishing personality, him and his voice can make anyone scream and do whatever he says. Anyway, it was a show that really impressed by the energy of the band, the huge production and the size of the public. Certainly, I would go watch them again and again and again.
See you out there!

Many thanks to t4f Brazil
